California’s iconic forests are under attack and need your help. After 5 years of drought, a large-scale bark beetle infestation, and a record breaking wildfire season in 2017 which ripped through 1.3 million acres- the size of Delaware; California, has suffered the largest deforestation in history and a record loss of over 130 million trees.
Trees are vitally important. As the largest plants on the planet, they provide us oxygen, medicines, store carbon, stabilize the soil and give life to the world’s wildlife. Not to mention, trees also provide us with the necessary materials for tools, and shelter and with their preservation, foster enormous economic opportunities for the world.
For the first time in the history of human civilization, the number of people with homes in cities will surpass those living in the countryside. Due to this mass-scale urbanization, parks and trees have become an even more vital component of urban life.
Deforestation has serious effects on air and water pollution, soil erosion, loss of biodiversity, and ultimately climate change.
Centuries ago, before cities and mass-scale urbanization, more than 60% of our planet were covered in forests.
Today, the current number of trees worldwide has since dropped by almost 50%, with 80,000 acres of forests disappearing from the earth every single day.
To put that into perspective, that’s equivalent to a whopping 36 football fields of forests being removed every minute.
If the current rate of deforestation continues, WWF reports it will take less than 100 years to destroy all of the rain forests on the earth.
The bottom line: Trees play a crucial role on our planet that in turn benefits our health, the environment, wildlife, communities, and the global economy.
Together, as conscious consumers, we can step up and work together to protect this natural playground for generations to come. Your purchases and consumption can make a huge difference in reversing this issue.
California’s forests provide innumerable benefits, including clean water and air, timber, habitat, not to mention the US economy, which in 2017 alone, contributed to over $92 billion in consumer spending, while generating over $6 billion in state and local tax revenues.
After suffering a devastating loss of 1.3 million acres of trees in 2017, California’s forests need our attention more than ever before.
We have teamed up with non-profit partner, One Tree Planted to combat this issue and help with the reforestation efforts in California.
For this project, we have chosen to focus our efforts in El Dorado County – an area that has been devastated by wildfires over the past three-four years.
For every product purchased, we will roll up our sleeves and work with our partners to plant a tree until we reach our planting goal of 2,000 trees.
Afterwards, we will provide you with a post recap on the planting and begin our process of selecting another area to make a positive impact in.
Make your purchase mean something. Let’s start with California.
